FSU Athletics Facebook Page Leads The GLIAC
Big Rapids, Mich. - A recently-released online evaluation tool
ranks the Ferris State University Athletics Department's social
media marketing efforts atop the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference.
The official FSU Athletics Facebook Fan Page (www.facebook.com/ferrisathletics) came in highest among
conference-member schools with a similar athletics-sponsored page
in an evaluation from the Social Page Evaluator tool created by
Vitrue.
FSU's Facebook Fan Page, which debuted last summer, received an
annual page valuation of $6,900, which is based on factors
considering the number of page fans, number of posts per day,
number of interactions and more.
The formula used by the Social Page Evaluator is related to a
similar formula released by the company last month to estimate the
relative value of Facebook Fans to big brands and can change on a
daily basis depending on page activity. It is designed to provide
an assessment of a brand's Facebook Page value and the
effectiveness of its social media efforts.
In a comparison study with other GLIAC-member pages, the official
Bulldog page came in highest of the five current league schools
offering a page ran by their respective athletics department.
Rival Grand Valley State, which has a league-high 8,825 fans, came
in second overall with an official page currently valued at
$5,880. Northwood, with only 813 fans, placed third at $5,561
followed by Michigan Tech ($3,180) and Wayne State. Six
other conference members including Ashland, Findlay, Saginaw Valley
State, Northern Michigan and Lake Superior State unofficially do
not offer an athletics-only facebook fan page at this time.
The Bulldogs' official facebook fan page currently has over 1,200
members and is maintained by the FSU Athletics Communications
Office. FSU also maintains an official Twitter page with more
than 315 followers along with official pages on several other
social media platforms, including YouTube.
Presently, more than 75% of Ferris Athletics' facebook fans are
found in the 18-44 age bracket with 42% considered college students
between the ages of 18-24.
The Social Media Evaluator is a scientific way to gauge the
potential of Facebook pages and social media efforts to
advertisers. The tool is adjustable and interactive, allowing
for marketings to consider the potential of advertising power via
social marketing.
Founded in February 2004, Facebook is a social utility that helps
people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and
coworkers. The company develops technologies that facilitate the
sharing of information through the social graph, the digital
mapping of people's real-world social connections. Anyone can sign
up for Facebook and interact with the people they know in a trusted
environment. Currently, there are over 400 million active
users who have returned to the site in the last 30 days across the
world.
