Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University football team put on its game uniforms for the first time in 2013 as the Bulldogs held their annual media and photo day activities during a busy day on the FSU campus at Top Taggart Field on Friday (Aug. 23).
The Bulldogs welcomed several local and regional media outlets to the event along with a nice crowd of parents and fans. Media representatives had an opportunity to interview coaches and players during the afternoon with coverage from Fox 17 Sports, WZZM 13, Channel 9&10 Sports, Mlive.com/Grand Rapids Press, the Big Rapids Pioneer, the Ferris State Torch, FerrisStateBulldogs.com and more.
A variety of individual and group photos were taken at the stadium, including the official 2013 team photo by FSU Photo Services. Additionally, the flagship home of the Bulldog Sports Network, Sunny 97.3 FM, produced its popular "Radio Caffeine" morning show from the Wheeler Pavilion broadcast booth leading up to and during the squad's morning practice.
After the media day activites, team members also spent the afternoon assisting incoming students and their families move into campus residence halls as part of the "Bulldogs In Action" initiative. They were joined by other Ferris State varsity athletics programs, including the Bulldog women's soccer and volleyball teams.
Finally, in the evening, the Bulldogs also held a team talent show as part of their Friday night team meetings. They will hold a practice on Saturday morning before breaking for the weekend and entering a more normal school year routinue with the official start of classes at Ferris State on Monday.
Ferris State begins its 105th season of varsity competition by facing a North Dakota State on Sept. 7 at Gate City Bank Field inside the Fargodome at Fargo, N.D. The Bison are the two-time defending Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Champions and the preseason number one team in the country. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. (ET) and the contest will be televised live by ESPN3.
The week one test will kickoff an 11-game Bulldog football slate in 2013 that features five home contests at Top Taggart Field and a 10-game GLIAC schedule. FSU will play its home opener the following week on Sept. 14 as the Bulldogs open league action in Big Rapids against the Lake Erie Storm starting at 7 p.m. (ET).
