Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball team will officially open up the 2012-13 campaign by hosting Lewis (Ill.) in a regional matchup this Saturday (Nov. 17) night at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Tipoff between the Bulldogs and Flyers is slated for 7:30 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State, which is the two-time defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Champion, split a pair of exhibition games with a 61-46 setback at NCAA Division I Loyola on Nov. 3 along with a 63-62 home victory over Calvin on Nov. 6.

Lewis, which is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), also will open its season against the Bulldogs.  The Flyers dropped all three of their exhibition games against NCAA Division I schools as they fell in road outings at Illinois (79-47), Indiana State (79-66) and DePaul (91-74). LU was picked to finish fifth in the highly-competitive GLVC East Division this year.

The Bulldog men's basketball team welcomes back eight letterwinners from last year's squad that won a share of a second consecutive GLIAC North Division Championship. FSU ended the 2011-12 men's hoops campaign with a 16-11 overall record.

The Bulldogs also made their 13th all-time GLIAC Tournament berth last year, including the program's fourth-straight conference tournament appearance. Overall, Ferris State has won four league titles and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament in head coach Bill Sall's tenure. The Bulldogs were chosen third in this season's GLIAC North Preseason Poll.

Ferris State and Lewis will square off for the 14th time Saturday with the Flyers holding a 9-4 series' advantage. Lewis has won nine of the last 12 encounters to date and topped the Bulldogs 62-44 a year ago (11/19/11) in the season opener at Romeoville, Ill.

Last season, Lewis qualified for the 2011-12 NCAA Basketball Tournament for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign under head coach Scott Trost and posted a 17-12 overall mark.  Among the squad's returees is 2011-12 GLVC Freshman of the Year Ryan Jackson, who averaged 13.0 points per game a year ago and was named to the Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team.

Saturday's game begins a season-opening three-game homestand for the Bulldogs.  FSU will also host Grace Bible on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. (ET) along with Division II power Winona State (Minn.) on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m. (ET).
