BIG RAPIDS – The Grand Rapids Pacers wheelchair basketball team will hit the court at Ferris State University's Wink Arena to take on Bulldog men's and women's basketball players and Residence Hall Association members – in wheelchairs – to raise awareness about disabilities.
The game, at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, is sponsored by the Disability Awareness and Education registered student organization, the Finance Division of Student Government and the Liaison Committee for Students with Disabilities.
"The Pacers are unbelievably talented and very entertaining to watch, even for people who don't normally watch basketball," said Julie Rudolph, an education and career counselor in the university's Educational Counseling and Disabilities Services office.
The nationally-ranked Pacers, supported by the Grand Rapids Wheelchair Sports Association, will leave those who attend the game with a different perspective on disabilities, Rudolph said.
The action-packed event is free and open to the public. A raffle will be held to help fund the Invest in Knowledge annual scholarship.
