Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team not only enjoyed a successful season on the links this past year, but also produced in the classroom as evidenced by the squad's recent distinction among the nation's top 20 academic programs on the 2013 Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) Team Academic Award list presented by Farmers Insurance.
The Bulldogs, under sixth-year head coach Mike Mignano, made their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in men's golf this past season and were among only 18 schools of more than 300 Division II programs nationwide to claim Team Academic Award laurels.
In order to be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the grade point averages for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. Teams must obtain a GPA of 3.00 or higher to earn All-Academic Team recognition.
Ferris State was one of four schools from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to place among the nation's top 20 programs academically along with Ohio Dominican, Saginaw Valley State and Tiffin.
On the course, FSU wrapped up action in the 2013 NCAA Central/Midwest Super Regional Championships this past spring by coming away with a 10th-place team finish in Kenosha, Wis. The Bulldogs also earned runner-up honors in the GLIAC Championships last fall, which were held in Elyria, Ohio.
