Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team wrapped up its first action of the 2013-14 campaign with an eighth-place team finish in the GLIAC North Fall Invitational held at HawksHead Golf Club in South Haven, Mich.
The Bulldogs carded a 300 team score in Sunday's final round after posting a first-day score of 297 on Saturday to finish at 597 overall for the two rounds of action on the par 72 course measuring 7,039 yards.
Junior Chris Eaton led the Bulldogs as he placed tied for ninth overall in the field at 146 on rounds of 72 and an even-par 72 on Sunday.
Sophomore Ben Cook was next in line as he finished tied for 22nd overall at 149 with scores of 74 and 75 in the competition. He was followed by senior Trent Davison, who placed tied for 36th at 152 with performances of 75 and 77 over the two days, respectively.
Sophomore Zak Kiefer wound up tied for 42nd at 153 with scores of 74 and 79 with junior Sam Stark rounding out the Bulldog lineup in a share of 49th place at 154 on the strength of individual scores of 78 and 76.
A pair of Bulldog golfers also competed as individuals with senior Andrew Jared carding rounds of 72 and 74 to finish at 146, which tied for ninth overall. Finally, redshirt freshman Carter Hendricks came in tied for 66th as he posted a 158 total with rounds of 82 and 76.
Saginaw Valley State won the team race with a 578 figure followed by Malone (585), Tiffin (589), Findlay (591) and Grand Valley State (592) in the top five overall among the 14 competing teams. The individual winner was Malone's Nate Tarter, who fired a 140 total with identical rounds of 70 both days.
The Bulldogs are slated to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional #1 event on Sept. 29-30 in Calumet City, Ill.
