Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams officially resumed action on Saturday (Jan. 11) as the Bulldogs competed in the Hillsdale Winter Opener, which was held inside the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center in Hillsdale, Mich.
The non-scoring competition included selected student-athletes on the Bulldog side along with competitors from other institutions across the region in addition to unattached athletes.
The Bulldogs had a strong contingent in the women's mile run. Senior Anna Rudd led the way with a runner-up finish (5:12.11) with Alyssa Osika placing fourth (5:17.42), Jordan Best sixth (5:20.51) and Breeann Ovokaitys seventh (5:22.26) in the field.
Osika also won the 800 meters (2:21.82) with sophomore Ashley Hamilton fifth (2:27.85) followed by Rachel Wood in sixth place (2:28.14) and Natalie Perry seventh (2:31.14) in the field.
Meanwhile, Rudd captured the 3,000 meters (10:16.64) with Best second (10:42.79) and Ovokaitys third (10:51.24). Paige Koskinen also ran in the race and was eighth (11:19.46).
Raven Blaser claimed the women's 60-meter dash (7.98) and senior Zoey Hohmann was fourth in the 400 meters (1:01.58).
In the men's action, Lucas Johnson came in third overall in the men's weight throw (54-4.75) while Ryan Stankey took fifth place in the men's shot put (47-2.50). Austin Grant was seventh in the weight throw (44-6.75).
FSU's Logan Hammer came in fourth in the men's mile run (4:30.69) with Connor LaRowe fifth (4:32.47) and Kyle Richardson eighth (4:39.80) in the event. Hammer also finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (9:14.80).
Ferris State also came in sixth in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:17.10).
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday (Jan. 17) at the annual Mike Lints Laker Open hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.
