Ferris State Track Registers National-Qualifying Performances & Several Personal Bests At Bucknell Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field teams sent selected student-athletes to the prestigious Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend (April 14-15) in Lewisburg, Pa.

FSU came home with several personal-bests and national-qualifying performances following the large meet which attracted competitors from schools at all levels from across the country, including NCAA Division I and II institutions among others.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs' Molly Emerick placed eighth in the 800 meters (2:12.38). Her time also was a new personal record and a national provisional qualifying performance.

Meanwhile, Ferris State's Emily Haynes placed 11th in the 10,000 meters (36:11.39) with Racheal McDonald coming in 14th (36:13.01) in the same race as both topped their previous personal-bests by over a minute and reached national provisional qualifying standards.

FSU's Sarah Utchel won her heat and came in 16th overall in the 200 meters (25.88) along with 18th overall in the 100 meters (12.62). Maycee Robinson placed 16th in the hammer throw (153-9).

On the men's side, All-America high jumper Jon Cok earned runner-up honors at the meet with a top performance of 6-9.50 in the event.

The Bulldogs' Brett Allpow came in 15th overall in the discus (151-5).

Senior Logan Hammer ran a strong race and finished 16th in the 1,500 meters (3:58.61) while FSU's Trevor Holowaty came in 16th in the 5,000 meters (14:57.90) and bettered his previous personal-best by nearly 17 seconds. The Bulldogs' Zach McKenzie had a personal-best and took 95th place in the 5K (15:33.35). In addition, Roan Fahey was 108th (15:41.63) in the large field.

The Bulldogs' John Alberts clocked a personal best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.03 while placing 123rd in a field that included nearly 150 total competitors.

Ferris State will next compete in the annual Al Owens Invite hosted by Grand Valley State on April 22-23 in Allendale. The meet will take place at GVSU, which will also play host to the 2017 GLIAC Championships in early May.
