FSU added nine track & field/cross country signees

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field/cross country program has made a big splash as FSU head coach Jared Kelsh recently inked nine student-athletes who plan to compete for the Bulldogs starting this fall.

Eight of the nine newcomers will be freshmen in eligibility this coming fall and are coming off standout careers on the prep level at locations across Michigan while another hails from the junior college ranks where she has earned All-America honors.

The talented group of additions features six student-athletes who will run for the Bulldog women's squad along with three men's signees.

The list of female runners includes Lansing Community College standout Madison Slater (DeWitt) along with prep talents Sydney Dawes (Ann Arbor/Pioneer), Kylie Hutchinson (Shepherd), Katelyn Hutchinson (Shepherd), Carissa Schurr (Frankenmuth) and Catherine Stone (Pinckney). On the men's side, FSU added local standout Mark Jacobs (Big Rapids) along with Aaron Jarema (Pinckney) and Taylor Rouse (Eaton Rapids).

All nine will primarily compete in the middle to long distance events and relays while adding contributions to both the FSU cross country and track programs under Kelsh's direction.

"This is an exceptional class we've added and we're looking forward to the future with all nine of these signees in our program," said Kelsh. "They'll help add considerable depth and talent to our returning roster and we expect them to be significant contributors moving forward."

The Bulldogs have recorded eight national provisional qualifying performances to date during the outdoor track campaign heading into this weekend's last chance competitions in Allendale. The 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships will take place May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.
