Due to unplayable field conditions, the Ferris State University softball team will have to put its 2011 home opener on hold as this Thursday's (March 31) scheduled home non-conference doubleheader versus the Aquinas Saints at Big Rapids, Mich., has been cancelled and won't be rescheduled.
As a result, Ferris State will now make preparations for this Saturday (April 2) as the Bulldogs are set to host the Lake Superior State Lakers in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division doubleheader at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids. Game one is set for a 1 p.m. (EDT) start with the second game to follow around 3 p.m. (EDT). The two teams square off again on FSU's home diamond this Sunday (April 3), beginning at noon (EDT). The second game of the conference divisional twinbill starts at 2 p.m. (EDT).
The Bulldogs, under the guidance of 14th-year head coach Keri Becker, were slated to open the home portion of their 2011 campaign on Tuesday (March 29) against the Davenport Panthers, but cold weather and unplayable field conditions (snow) forced the cancellation of the non-league doubleheader.
Ferris State has currently registered a 6-12 overall record with a 3-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) North Division mark this season.
