Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2014 Ferris State University softball team will open its 42nd season of intercollegiate competition in the Sunshine State as the Bulldogs travel to Florida over the FSU spring break period.
The Bulldogs have added a late game to the slate and will now face Notre Dame College in the first official contest on Friday (March 7) night at 7 p.m. (ET) in Clermont as part of the NTC Games.
FSU will then play 12 games in a seven-day period at the Florida Rebel Spring Games starting on Saturday (March 8) in Winter Haven, Fla. This year, games will take place at both the DiamondPlex facility in Winter Haven along with the Auburndale Softball Complex.
The Bulldogs, who will be guided by first-year head coach Sarah Rotta, open action at the Florida Rebel Spring Games by facing facing Northern State (S.D.) on Saturday at 10 a.m. (ET) followed by an afternoon matchup versus Aldelphi (N.Y.) beginning at 2 p.m. (ET).
Overall, Ferris State will play a total of 12 games over a seven-day span in the event during FSU's annual spring break week. The Bulldogs close the event on Friday, March 14, with a doubleheader before returning home.
Last spring, the Bulldogs posted a 29-16 overall record and reached the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in school history. It represented the 10th consecutive year in which FSU had won at least 24 games in a season. The Bulldogs finished as the GLIAC runner-up in regular-season play with a 20-6 league record in 2013.
The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth overall of 14 schools in the 2014 GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll, which was recently announced by the league office.
After taking part in the Florida Rebel Spring games, the Bulldogs return home and are tentatively slated to open league play at home against Ashland on Saturday, March 22, if weather permits.
