Ferris State's Sarah DeShone Claims GLIAC North Division Weekly Award

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the second time this season, Ferris State University senior guard Sarah DeShone (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown) has claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honor.

DeShone tallied 21.5 points, six assists and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs swept two opponents this past week in league action. She scored a team-high 16 points and had 10 assists along with three steals as Ferris State upset nationally 21st-ranked Wayne State to keep their postseason hopes alive on Thursday (Feb. 20) by an 85-77 score inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena. 

The standout guard then scored a contest-high 27 points and matched a school-record by hitting seven three-pointers in Saturday's (Feb. 22) 83-75 GLIAC road win at Saginaw Valley State. Additinoally, she posted six rebounds, two assists and a steal in the win over the Cardinals. 

The two-time All-American shot 65% (13-20) from the floor for the week and hit nine-of-13 (.692) three's along with eight-of-nine (.889) free throws while totaling 43 points, 12 assists, nine rebounds and four steals. She previously claimed the league's weekly honor after opening the season in November by becoming the school's 15th player to reach the 1,000 career points club.

DeShone heads into the final week of her career ranked among the school's top all-time leaders in a number of statistical categories including second in three-point percentage (.399), third in made three's (163), tied for seventh in free throws made (259), eighth in scoring (1,382), tied for eighth in assists (364) and 11th in steals (150).

This season, DeShone currently ranks third among the conference's scoring leaders (17.7 ppg.), third in assists (4.5 pg.) and is fifth in three-point percentage (.416) along with fifth in three-pointers made (2.1 pg.) and seventh in steals (1.7 pg.). She also leads the conference and is ranked sixth nationally in free throw percentage (.907) to date.

As a junior last season, DeShone started all 26 games and reached double-figure scoring 24 times while attaining Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America Honorable Mention laurels for the second-straight year along with All-GLIAC First Team kudos. Previously, as a sophomore in 2011-12, DeShone averaged 14.1 points and 4.6 assists per contest in leading the Bulldogs to a 23-7 overall mark and the league's North Division Championship while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

This week, the Bulldogs will play their final two regular-season games at home inside Jim Wink Arena.

FSU will host archrival Grand Valley State on Thursday (Feb. 27) night starting at 6 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids and then close the regular-season with a rematch against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (March 1) in a rescheduled game set to begin at 1 p.m. (ET). DeShone will be honored on Saturday between the women's and men's contests along with men's basketball senior forward Raymoan McAfee during "Senior Day" activities.
