Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team suffered a loss to the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Thursday (Feb. 16) by a 67-53 count in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the opening quarter, shooting 64% percent from the field. Northern Michigan extended their lead with a 21-9 edge in the second quarter, taking a 42-19 lead into the locker room.
Ferris State fought tough defensively in the third quarter, holding Northern Michigan to just three points in the first five minutes of the quarter, and outscoring the Wildcats 14-9 to chip into the lead.
The Bulldogs had their best offensive showing with 20 points in the final quarter, where the Bulldogs shot 53.8 percent and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Ferris State finished the game shooting 36.7 percent from the floor while the Wildcats shot 51.0 percent.
Four Wildcats were in double figures, but Jessica Schultz led the way with 16 points. On the glass, Erin Honkala had seven rebounds for NMU.
For the game, Ferris State won the battle at the glass with 30 rebounds to Northern Michigan's 28. The Bulldogs also shot 4-of-11 from three-point land while the Wildcats finished just 1-of-7.
Ferris State is back in action for Senior Day on Saturday (Feb. 18) against the Michigan Tech Huskies at 1 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
