Ferris State Women's Golf Earns Wood Radio "Team Of The Day" Honors

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team was honored Wednesday for its accomplishment in winning the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational earlier this week by being chosen as WOOD Radio's Montell Construction Team of the Day.

A new team from West Michigan is selected and honored by the Grand Rapids-based station each day this fall as part of the "Montell Hometown Team of the Day" program. The winning team is announced following the morning sports update from longtime sports radio personality Bret Bakita at 7:19 a.m. on Wood Radio 1300 AM and 106.9 FM.

The Bulldogs carded a 308 team score over Monday's final 18 holes of action to finish at 615 for the two-day event and three strokes ahead of host Indianapolis and Arkansas Tech to claim the tournament title. FSU carded a 307 total and trailed UIndy by a single stroke heading into the final round before pulling out the win on the par 72 course measuring 5,976 yards at Heartland Crossing Golf Links in Camby, Ind.

Sophomore Libby Berens and senior Emily Rohdy both earned all-tournament team accolades as each tied for eighth place in the event. Senior Ashley Swanson tied for 15th in the field with senior Jacqueline (DeBoer) Mulder coming in tied for 23rd and Elizabeth Bauernfeind placing tied for 29th overall. FSU's Kelsey McKinley also competed as an individual and wound up tied for 77th in the field.

Ferris State will next take part in the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invite, which will be hosted by Grand Valley State and played at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale this Saturday (Sep. 28) and Sunday (Sep. 29).
