Ferris State Fires Best Score In Final Round To Finish Fourth In Cavalier Classic
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team shot the best team score on the final day to move up to fourth place overall as play wrapped up in the 2014 JBMF Cavalier Classic hosted by Walsh University on Monday (April 14) in Canton, Ohio.
Ferris State carded an impressive 310 figure in Monday's final 18 holes of action to finish at 646 overall for the 36 holes of competition on the par 72 course measuring 6,061 total yards. FSU shot a first-day 336 figure on Sunday in the opening round.
Overall, the Bulldogs' 310 final day score was the second-best mark of the tournament behind day one leader Grand Valley State, which carded a 309 score on Sunday and wound up winning the event with a 628 figure. Findlay and Ashland tied for second overall with 642 scores in front of the Bulldogs.
A total of 14 schools took part in the two-round event and the top four finish represented the Bulldogs' sixth in as many spring outings this season to date.
Senior Ashley Swanson led the Bulldogs as she tied for runner-up honors with a 153 figure on rounds of 79 and 74 over the two days, respectively. She was followed by senior Jacqueline Mulder and sophomore Libby Berens, who both tied for 18th at 163 overall.
Mulder carded an 82 in the first round before shooting an 81 on Monday while Berens posted a 87 on Sunday prior to firing a 76 in the final round.
FSU's Elizabeth Bauernfeind tied for 26th with a 167 score on rounds of 88 and 79 over the two days while senior Emily Rohdy posted a 173 score to tie for 38th in the field. She shot an 88 in the first round followed by an 85 over the final 18 holes of action.
The Bulldogs' Kelsey McKinley and Jordan Duvall also competed as individuals with McKinley tying for 31st overall and Duvall placing 52nd. McKinley posted rounds of 85 and 84 while Duvall shot 93 and 89 over the two days of action.
Ferris State is back in action on Friday (April 18) as the Bulldogs square off against rival Grand Valley State in dual action in Allendale, Mich. FSU will then take part in the GLIAC Championships April 25-27 in New Albany, Ohio.
