Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team has officially received its fourth consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament berth and will hit the road for a quarterfinal-round match on Tuesday (Nov. 5).
The Bulldogs are seeded fifth among the eight qualifying teams for the second-straight year and will visit Ohio Dominican for a quarterfinal-round contest on Tuesday at 2 p.m. (ET) in Columbus, Ohio.
Nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State will host eighth-seeded Northwood on Tuesday in a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal match. Second-seeded Michigan Tech will host number seven Saginaw Valley State while third-seeded Ashland will host number six Northern Michigan in the other quarterfinal-round matches.
The winners of Tuesday's quarterfinals will advance to the GLIAC Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Ferris State enters the tournament with a 9-7-1 overall record this season and placed tied for fourth in the league regular-season play with a 7-4-1 conference mark. Meanwhile, ODU holds a 10-5-2 overall ledger and also came in fourth at 7-4-1 in conference action.
Earlier this season (9/20), the Bulldogs suffered a 3-1 setback against the Panthers in Columbus, which gave Ohio Dominican the tiebreaker edge and the right to host Tuesday's quarterfinal.
Ferris State has compiled a current 2-5 all-time record (.286) in GLIAC Tournament matches. The Bulldogs made their initial conference tourney appearance in 2007 (10/30/07) with a 3-2 quarterfinal-round loss at Saginaw Valley State. FSU then registered a 2-0 home decision over Northern Michigan in the 2008 quarterfinals (11/4/08) before suffering a 3-0 semifinal-round setback at Grand Valley State (11/7/08).
In 2010, the Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 contest in the quarterfinals against Northern Michigan in Marquette (11/2/10) before a 1-0 loss the following year at Ashland (11/1/11) in the quarterfinal-round. Last season, in 2012, the Bulldogs upset Findlay 2-1 on the road in quarterfinal play (10/30/12) to reach the semifinals for the second time in school history before falling to GVSU by a 4-0 count (11/2/12).
This year's visit represents the Bulldogs' fourth consecutive conference tournament appearance and it marks the first time in school history the Bulldogs have qualified for the event four years in a row.
Ferris State, which beat Lake Erie 2-0 in its regular-season finale on Sunday (Nov. 3) in Big Rapids, closed the year with a 7-1 overall record at home this season and the lone loss was a 1-0 non-conference setback to archrival and nationally top-ranked Grand Valley State last week. Overall, FSU outscored the opponents by a 23-4 count in Big Rapids with five shutouts.
This year also represents only the sixth time in the program's 15-year history in which the Bulldogs have won at least nine contests in a season.
