Big Rapids, Mich. - The 2013 Ferris State Invitational will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6-7, at the Ewigleben Sports Arena and Jim Wink Arena within the Ewigleben Sports Complex on the campus of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
This season, the tournament field is comprised of eight teams - Ashland, Cedarville (Ohio), California (Pa.), Indiana (Pa.), Missouri-St. Louis, Saginaw Valley State, Washburn (Kan.) and host Ferris State.
The two-day tourney will feature eight matches on Friday, Sept. 6, beginning at 10:30 a.m. (ET) with matches running throughout the day until the 6 p.m. (ET) finales. The final day of the tourney takes place on Saturday, Sept. 7, with another eight matches on the docket. Match times for Saturday begin at 9:30 a.m. (ET) with the last match of the event starting at 5 p.m. (ET).
Ferris State is scheduled to play two contests per day, starting with its 2013 season opener versus California (Pa.) on Friday at 1 p.m. (EDT) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena. Following that tilt, the Bulldogs entertain Midwest Regional foe Missouri-St. Louis in a 6 p.m. (EDT) matchup.
In Saturday's (Sept. 7) action, FSU takes on highly-regarded Washburn (Kan.) at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) before wrapping up tourney play against regional opponent Cedarville (Ohio) in a 5 p.m. (EDT) encounter.
A total of 16 matches involving the eight teams will take place on the two courts in the two-day span.
Ticket prices for the 2013 Ferris State Invitational are $15 for an all-tournament pass (includes both days) or $10 for adults per day in addition to $3 for faculty, students, and grades K-12. Ferris State students with valid ID and children under the age of five will be admitted free of charge.
Ferris State wrapped up the 2012 campaign with a 24-8 overall record and reached the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals for the second consecutive year. FSU also posted a 16-2 mark in GLIAC play and came within a single victory of claiming a second-straight conference championship.
The Bulldogs have advanced to the NCAA Tournament three of the last four years to date.
Ferris State returns nearly 10 letterwinners for the 2013 season, including a pair of All-GLIAC selections in senior libero Brandie Merren (Hopkins) and junior outside hitter Courtney Rehm (Portage/Central). A year ago, Merren was tabbed as the GLIAC's Libero of the Year and also a Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team honoree.
The Bulldogs are guided by head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, who will embark on her 18th year at the Bulldog helm and 21st season overall as a collegiate head coach.
