Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team vaulted two spots to 20th in the nation this week as the Bulldogs prepare for a weekend road trip to Ohio in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.
The Bulldogs, who were ranked 22nd a week ago, are the highest-ranked GLIAC team in the national rankings following a 3-2 home win over previously 17th-ranked Grand Valley State last Tuesday (Oct. 1), which dropped the Lakers a notch behind FSU at 21st in the country.
Ferris State presently owns a 12-3 overall mark to date this season and is the lone remaining unbeaten team in conference play with a 7-0 league record. FSU has won its last eight consecutive outings this season.
In addition to the win over GVSU, the Bulldogs also beat Tiffin by a 3-1 score in Big Rapids last Friday (Oct. 4) before handling Ohio Dominican in a 3-0 sweep on Saturday (Oct. 5).
Concordia-St. Paul continues to hold down the nation's number one ranking with Minnesota-Duluth second, Tampa third, Central Missouri fourth and BYU-Hawaii fifth in the national poll.
Ferris State and GVSU are the only two schools from the GLIAC ranked nationally with Ashland receiving 11 points to rank among others receiving votes.
This weekend, the Bulldogs travel to Ohio for two key league road contests. FSU and Ashland will square off in a battle of the divisional leaders on Friday (Oct. 11) night in Ashland, Ohio. The Bulldogs then face Lake Erie on Saturday (Oct. 12) in Painesville beginning at 5 p.m. (ET).
After this week's trip to Ohio, the Bulldogs return home for two league matches inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena next week as FSU hosts Findlay and Wayne State on Oct. 18-19, respectively.
