Big Rapids, Mich. - Members of the Ferris State University men's and women's cross country and track program, along with the generous assistance of Meijer, recently came together to help support one of their own.
A member of the Bulldog cross country and track team's family recently suffered the complete loss of their home over the winter break in a fire and the team came together to raise more than $1,600 for the family.
The total included a $500 gift card from Meijer and the funds raised will be donated to the family to help offset their loss.
"It was really great to see our team come together and help out a teammates' family that was in need," said FSU head coach Steve Picucci. "It shows the quality of student-athletes we have at Ferris State and I am extremely proud of the kids in our program for what they did.
"We're also very appreciative of the support of Meijer and their generous donation of the gift card to help support the family," he added.
Ferris State is currently midst its indoor track and field season and posted four national provisional-qualifying performances at last Friday's (Jan. 18) Mike Lints Laker Open hosted by Grand Valley State.
FSU is next in action this Friday, Jan. 25, at The Cardinal Open hosted by Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Mich.
