The Ferris State University Athletics Department announced the appointment of Madison Heilman as the school's new athletics camp coordinator in Nov. 2018.
A Central Michigan graduate, Heilman most recently served as a recreation assistant in the Mount Pleasant Parks and Recreation Department since November 2016. Heilman is a 2016 graduate of CMU where she earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree and recently finished her Master of Arts in Sports Administration in May 2018.
While with the Mount Pleasant Parks and Recreation department, Heilman assisted in the organization and planning of various community events and programs, including youth athletics and special events. She assisted with scheduling and organizational duties for a variety of initiatives.
In her past roles, she has also been involved with coordinating participation for events, planning of activities, communicating policies and procedures, mediating issues, supervision and social media marketing, which will all tie into her role as the athletics camp coordinator.
"We're excited to name Madison to this position and believe she'll be a great fit leading our camps operation while being involved with our events and projects throughout the year," said Tim Blashill, FSU's Manger of Athletic Facilities. "She brings a great deal of experience and her role will directly impact the success of our programs."
As the Bulldogs' camps coordinator, she'll direct and manage all of FSU's sports camps for the 17 varsity programs and will be involved in other special projects while serving as part of FSU's game operations and management staff.
While at CMU, Heilman also served as a graduate assistant for Facilities and Event Operations in the CMU Athletics Department where she was the Game Administrator for three sports, including field hockey, gymnastics and women's lacrosse. Heilman previously was a CMU Athletics intern as an undergraduate in the event operations and game management area.
During her tenure at Central Michigan, Heilman helped hire, train and supervise student staff members while being involved with management, administration and supervision of athletic facilities and day-to-day operations.
Heilman, while working in the Mount Pleasant Department of Parks and Recreation, had a hand in organizing community events including youth athletic leagues, farmers' markets and special events. She also cultivated a background in marketing and sponsorships with local businesses.
The Haslett, Mich., native has extensive experience in scheduling tournaments of over 50 teams, while working with organizations including USA Softball of Michigan Jr. Olympics. Previously, she has also served as a supervisor for the Meridian Township Parks and Recreation department while volunteering her time as a youth basketball and volleyball coach.
