#14 Ferris State Handles Davenport In GLIAC Home Tilt At Wink Arena

Big Rapids, Mich. - Nationally 14th-ranked Ferris State University put together a big performance on Thursday (Jan. 18), topping visiting Davenport 90-61 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's basketball action at Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs and Panthers went back and forth early before a late first-half push gave FSU a 41-28 lead at the break. In the second half, the Bulldogs totaled 49 points and limited DU to 33 en route to the league home triumph.

The Bulldogs had a balanced effort in the win with 13 of 14 players reaching the scoring column. A total of seven had seven points or more with junior guard Ethan Erickson notching a team-best 15 points, which included a four-of-nine showing from three-point range. Additionally, senior Jack Ammerman chipped in with 11 points.

Ferris State owned the glass, posting a dominating 47-27 rebounding edge, which included 15 offensive caroms. The Bulldogs outscored DU 23-6 on the offensive glass and junior Reece Hazelton tallied a game-high 11 boards in the win. FSU's Dolapo Olayinka narrowly missed a double-double effort with nine points and nine rebounds.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot 49.3% from the floor and made eight-of-26 (30.8%) three's along with 14-of-16 (87.5%) free throws,

Ferris State came up with 14 steals on the defensive end and the Bulldogs forced 17 turnovers, which led to a 24-8 scoring advantage in points off turnovers. FSU also held a 28-11 margin in fast break scoring production.

Davenport got a team-high 16 points from Marcedus Leech, Jr., but he was the lone DU player to reach double-digits. The Panthers shot 35.8%) from the floor and were eight-of-24 (33.3%) beyond the three-point arc along with 15-of-23 (65.2%) at the free throw line.

Finally, Ferris State dished out 29 assists in the victory, which featured six apiece from Erickson and junior Jimmy Scholler. The Bulldogs dominated inside with a 42-16 advantage in points scored inside the paint.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State will host West Michigan archrival Grand Valley State in a league showdown on Saturday (Jan. 20) starting at 3 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
