Ferris State Men's Basketball Scores Big Home Win Over Davenport In GLIAC Play

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State University men's basketball squad bounced back in a big way, securing an 82-69 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home victory over Davenport on Saturday (Jan. 17) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena, with a strong second half performance ensuring the win.

The Bulldogs' shooting accuracy was notable, achieving 56.4% from the field and 56.5% from beyond the arc.

Ferris State opened the game with a strong offensive performance, quickly responding to the Panthers' initial 7-0 run. Chang Hoth sparked the Bulldogs with a three-pointer at 16:40, followed by another from Justin Asi, narrowing the gap to 7-6. The home team continued to battle, tying the score at various points and eventually taking a 38-33 lead with 1:34 remaining after another layup by Hoth. FSU maintained the advantage, concluding the first half with a 40-35 lead over Davenport.

The Bulldogs asserted control early in the second half with a quick layup by senior Mykel Bingham at 19:14, followed by a timely three-pointer from Bingham assisted by Hoth at 18:32. Despite Davenport's efforts to close the gap, the Bulldogs maintained their lead through strategic scoring, including key three-pointers from Asi and Hoth, which extended their advantage to 51–46 by 17:05.

FSU capitalized on a series of turnovers and defensive rebounds, further widening the margin with successive baskets. Tae Boyd's three-point play at 12:02 regained the lead for Ferris State at 59–58, and they continued to build momentum with strong performances from Bingham and fellow senior Bryce Moore. The half ended with Ferris State outscoring Davenport 42–34, securing an 82–69 victory as FSU pulled away for the double-digit triumph.

Hoth led Ferris State with 24 points, converting 6 of 6 from beyond the arc and adding four assists. Bingham recorded a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while also contributing three assists. Boyd scored 13 points and added two steals to his performance. Asi posted 16 points, sinking four 3-pointers, and dished out five assists.

Curtis Jackson led the Panthers with 13 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and contributing 12 assists, marking a standout performance in the team's playmaking. Ken Walker was the top scorer, amassing 18 points, including three successful 3-pointers and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Aidan Moon added strength in the paint with 12 points and two blocks, while also grabbing six rebounds.

Ferris State held a slim 32-27 rebounding margin and the Bulldogs also got 36 points off the bench compared to only 11 for the Davenport reserves.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play while DU fell to 9-7 overall and 3-5 in the league.

The Bulldogs will host rival Grand Valley State on Monday (Jan. 19) inside Jim Wink Arena with tipoff set for 6 p.m. (ET). All kids ages 18 and under will be admitted free at the door as part of the "Kids Day" promotion on Martin Luther King Day.
