CHICAGO — The Ferris State University men's basketball squad (9-12, 6-8 GLIAC) fell to Roosevelt (4-17, 3-11 GLIAC) 95-87 on Monday night at the Goodman Center in Chicago.
Despite a strong performance in rebounding with a total of 51 boards, the Bulldogs were unable to overcome Roosevelt's advantage in points off turnovers, which stood at 19.
Ferris State opened the game with a quick start, securing a 6–0 lead within the first minute following 3-pointers by Brandon Claerbaut and Chang Hoth. Despite multiple lead changes, the Bulldogs maintained pressure with Hoth hitting four 3-pointers during the half and Owen Hardy contributing significantly on defense with seven rebounds and key blocks. Roosevelt countered with consistent scoring in the paint, ultimately pulling ahead to lead 49–42 at the end of the first half.
FSU made a strong push with a series of scoring plays early in the second half, highlighted by Mykel Bingham's jumper at 17:26 that cut Roosevelt's lead to three points. Despite the Bulldogs' efforts, including a notable 3-pointer by Hoth at 8:53 that kept the game within reach, Roosevelt maintained control due to their consistent scoring and defensive stops. Ferris managed to outscore Roosevelt in the half 45-46 but ultimately fell short as the game ended with the Lakers on top, 95-87.
Bingham scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, contributing significantly with three blocks. Hardy collected 18 rebounds and added 12 points, while also blocking five shots. Tae Boyd led the team with 26 points, converting 9 of 14 field goals and hitting 6 of 9 free throws. Hoth tallied 20 points, sinking six 3-pointers on 12 attempts.
Kaleim Taylor led Roosevelt with 24 points, connecting on 10 of 16 field goals, including two from beyond the arc. Davon Smith-Johnson added 17 points, making six field goals, three of which were 3-pointers, and contributed eight rebounds. Mikey West contributed across the board with 16 points, five assists, and four steals, while Hamahrie Bowers also tallied 13 points and matched West with four steals, demonstrating strong defensive efforts.
