GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State University men's basketball squad fell to Davenport University by a final score of 79-64 on Saturday (Feb. 28) in the regular-season finale at the DU Student Center.
Despite the loss, FSU will be the eighth seed for the GLIAC Tournament and visit top-seeded Northern Michigan on Wednesday (March 4) in the quarterfinal round at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
Ferris State led at halftime with a score tied at 37, but was outscored 42-27 in the second half of Saturday's matchup.
FSU opened the first half with determination, matching Davenport's pace in a closely contested start. Mykel Bingham's layup at 16:34 tied the score at 2–2, setting the tone for a back-and-forth exchange. The Bulldogs capitalized on offensive rebounds, securing 12 in total, which helped maintain possession and create scoring opportunities.
The visiting team showed resilience, with Chang Hoth hitting a crucial 3-pointer at 6:48 to tie the game at 22–22. Despite turnovers, the Bulldogs managed to keep the score balanced through consistent shooting from beyond the arc, finishing the half with six 3-pointers. The half concluded with Bingham's tip-in at the buzzer, leveling the score at 37–37.
FSU briefly captured the lead early in the second half with Tae Boyd's 3-pointer at 18:00, but Davenport quickly responded to regain control. Despite Ferris State's efforts, including a 3-pointer by Joey Cabana at 7:07, turnovers plagued its performance, allowing the Panthers to extend their lead.
