Ferris State Inks Transfer Guard David Williams As First Signee Of Coach Brooks Miller Era

Big Rapids, Mich. - New Ferris State University men's basketball head coach Brooks Miller has officially announced his first signee as Miles College transfer guard David Williams has inked with the Bulldogs.

A native of Detroit, the 6-3 Williams led the Golden Bears to a 20-8 overall mark as a freshman this past season on the NCAA Division II level, starting all 28 games and averaging nearly 12 points per contest with a team-high 78 assists. He earned all-freshmen team accolades in his debut season on the college level and shot over 34% from the three-point line. Miles finished with a 17-7 mark in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Prior to his stint at Miles, Williams prepped at Birmingham Brother Rice High School. Williams led Brother Rice to both regional and conference championships in high school and was the squad's starting point guard. He's regarded as an elite shot creator who can score at all three levels as a skilled guard.

"We're thrilled to have David as our first signee at Ferris State and expect him to be a leader right away," Miller said. "He's an talented performer and we look forward to working with him to continue to elevate his game. He'll have a big impact on our program moving forward."

A two-time National Coach of the Year, Miller previously led Trine University to the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championship and most recently served as the Associate Head Coach this past season at NCAA Division I Central Michigan. He was hired as the 15th head coach in Bulldog men's basketball history.

The Ferris State men's basketball program has a long track record of success that includes more than 1,300 all-time victories, 17 GLIAC Championships and 18 NCAA Tournament appearances along with a national championship in 2018. Since 2004, the Bulldogs have reached the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen five times and won 13 GLIAC regular season or tourney titles. FSU reached the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in 11 years in 2024-25 and has won 20 games or more 10 times in the last 11 full seasons of action. This past season, the Bulldogs made their 12th consecutive and 26th overall GLIAC Tournament appearance in program history.
