Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team battled to the finish and climbed the leaderboard late on the final day, narrowly missing a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships as play concluded in the NCAA D2 Midwest/Central Super Regional held at FSU's Katke Golf Course.

The Bulldogs finished the 54-hole event in a tie for 5th place and were only a stroke out of fourth place at a potential trip to the D2 National Championships. FSU finished the three-day tournament on its home course with a 880 team figure, finishing just shy of fourth-place Washburn's 879 figure for the final advancing spot.

The 20-team super regional event was won by Grand Valley State with a 867 team score followed by Missouri-St. Louis in second place (872) and Central Missouri in third (873) with Washburn fourth. The Bulldogs tied Arkansas Tech for fifth place at 880 overall as the final round saw several teams fall in the rankings late in the round.

After shooting a 297 in round one and a 292 in round two, the Bulldogs finished with a 291 team score in the final 18 holes of play, notching the second-best figure over the final round of play.

In addition to the close team finish, FSU's Ben Miller also just missed out on qualifying as one of two individuals not associated with an advancing team for the national championships, coming in tied for eighth overall with an even-par 216 effort for the three rounds. He opened with a 67 on Thursday before shooting a 75 on Friday and a 74 in Saturday's final round.

The Bulldogs' Kole Putnam placed tied for 17th with a 218 score, recording a 75 in the first round with a 72 in round two and a 71 in the last round.

Ferris State's Ethan Frost totaled a 225 score for the event and placed tied for 50th in the field. He shot an 80 in round one and a 74 in the second round before closing with a 71 in the third round.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs' Sam Havey placed tied for 82nd at 232 for the tourney, shooting a 78 in the first round and a 79 in round two along with a 75 in the last round.

Finally, Zach Spencer shot a 234 for the event, placing 88th overall. Spencer opened the event with a 77 in the first round and came back with a 71 in round two before closing with an 86 in the last round of play.

This year marked this the 21st time in the past 23 years in which the Bulldogs had representation in the NCAA Tournament when it has been held. The stretch of NCAA Championship representation in men's golf ranks as one of the best stretches in the country.
