Mankato, Minn. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team suffered a 2-0 defeat against #16 Minnesota State in Game 3 of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Mason Cup Playoffs Sunday (March 8) at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
The Bulldogs (8-27-2) had their season ended by the Mavericks (20-10-7) with the defeat. Sophomore goaltender Martin Lundberg stopped 44 shots and finished the series with 103 saves and a .936 save percentage.
Previously, FSU had won Saturday's (March 7) game 2-1 in overtime to force Game 3 after Minnesota State claimed a 5-1 win Friday (March 6).
Luigi Benincasa put MSU on the board at 1:32 in the second period with Tristan Lemyre assisting. The Mavericks scored their second goal at 15:57 courtesy of Mason Wheeler. Campbell Cichosz and Ean Somoza assisted.
The Bulldogs pulled Lundberg for the extra attacker late in the game, but were unable to find a goal.
For the game, FSU was 5-5 on the penalty kill, 0-3 on the power play, had 17 shots on goal, blocked 16 shots and won 27 faceoffs. The Mavericks had 46 shots on goal, 10 blocked shots and won 40 faceoffs.
Individually, Nic Belpedio led the team with three blocked shots and Christopher Lie, Tyler Schleppe, Caden Brown, Tanner Rowe and Gavin Best each had two shots on goal. Josh Zary finished with a team-high 10 faceoff wins.
The Bulldogs will now enter the offseason and begin preparations for the 2026-27 season.
