Bulldog Men's Tennis Opens Play Strong At ITA Midwest Regional Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team got off to a big start at the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships as play began on Saturday (Sept. 17) in Indianapolis.
The Bulldogs had both strong singles and doubles results on the opening day of the regional championships hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
All four of the Bulldogs' doubles teams advanced to the round of 16 in their respective draws. A single round of doubles action took place on day one with the Bulldog tandems posting a 4-0 record. Two different teams advanced to the second round in the A flight bracket draw while two other teams advanced in the B flight draw.
Meanwhile, in singles play, the Bulldogs had the second-most players competing in the A draw with five of the 23 competing schools. Three of the five individual Bulldog players earned first-round wins before falling in the round of 32.
Overall, six of FSU's seven singles competitors earned at least one victory in day one action.
"I was impressed with our play overall and it was a very good day on the courts," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "The losses we had were all against extremely high-level players so it was a good day overall."
Action continues on Sunday with the championship contests slated for Monday. The champions of both the regional singles and doubles contests will qualify to receive an automatic bid into the ITA Cup National Championships in Rome, Ga.
