Men's Tennis Battles Well In Season-Opening Setback to UIndy

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad fell to the University of Indianapolis by a 5-2 score in its spring regular-season opener on Sunday (Feb. 1) in Indy.

The Greyhounds took two of the three doubles flights for the initial point in the match and came up with wins in four of the six singles positions despite a closely-contested challenge from the Bulldogs.

"The 5–2 score doesn't exactly tell the story of how good this match was," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "From the start, we competed really well in doubles and that moved over to singles with some really good tennis.

"Jose Perez beat the number 21 ranked player in the country to get us on the board," he added. "Then, we had some really close matches with another win from freshman Andrew Vincler. I feel like this is one of our better first matches of the year so the guys are really coming off of this loss with true belief that it's going to help us be better and give us great experience going into next weekend."

The match was the lone outing of the weekend for the Bulldogs following several weather-related adjustments in the Indianapolis area that led to the cancellation of scheduled regional matchups against both Drury (Mo.) and Rockhurst (Mo.).

The Bulldogs will be back in action hosting Spring Arbor on Friday (Feb. 6) at 2 p.m. (ET) along with Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 7) at 2 p.m. (ET).
