Ferris State Tennis Teams Sweep Walsh To Open Up Weekend Homestand
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads started off a big homestand on Friday (Feb. 13) as each squad topped Walsh in regional play by a 7-0 score at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
The Bulldogs, who will host three consecutive days of play this weekend, took the doubles point in both matches and then proceeded to win all six singles flights in both the men's and women's contests.
The FSU women's team improved to 3-1 overall with the regional triumph while the men's team now holds a 4-1 mark to date this campaign.
"It was a very efficient day on the courts today for both teams," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Traditionally, we are known as one of the better doubles teams in the Midwest, but haven't been playing the best doubles recently.
"So for both teams to get the doubles point today was very important," he added. "It was a great start to a three-match weekend."
The closest men's doubles score came by a 6-4 count at the second flight in the lineup and the tightest women's doubles match was a 6-3 decision at the top spot.
In singles play, both the men's and women's teams captured straight-set wins in five of the six positions with one each going to a third frame.
Ferris State will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 14) as FSU hosts Calvin in a twin bill starting with the women's match at 10 a.m. (ET) and the men's contest at 2 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
