Ferris State Tennis Sweeps Davenport On The Road In League Action
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads opened weekend action with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road sweep over Davenport on Friday (March 27) at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
The Bulldog men captured a 7-0 win over the Panthers while the women claimed a 5-2 victory. The win on the men's side came in FSU's league opener while the women improved to 2-0 in conference action this year.
In the men's match, the Bulldogs jumped in front early by taking all three doubles flights for the initial point of the match. In singles play, FSU swept all six positions, which included straight-set wins in flights two thru six. The Bulldogs' Kevin Kovacs won a three-set contest at one singles, recording a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 triumph.
Ferris State improved to 10-3 overall this year in men's competition with the win.
In the women's outing, the Bulldogs also picked up the first point of the match, taking all three doubles contests. In the singles round, Ferris State earned wins at one, two, four and six singles. The top three flights were all determined in third sets with the Bulldogs' Madeline Peisley and Yara Madi taking the first and second flights, respectively.
The Bulldog women are now 8-5 overall this year to date.
Ferris State will visit West Michigan rival Grand Valley State on Saturday (March 28) for a league twin bill starting at 5 p.m. (ET).
