Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams are both headed to the NCAA Division II Tournament once again as the two Bulldog squads received official bids via a live selection announcement on Monday (May 4) evening.
The NCAA Division II National Men's & Women's selection committees released the respective fields for the national tournaments via NCAA.com.
The women will hit the road for regional action starting this Friday (May 8) in Findlay, Ohio, while the men will play host to one of two Midwest Regional Tournaments beginning on Monday (May 11). The men's regional will be played at Big Rapids High School unless weather forces the event inside at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
The Bulldog women's team received its 24th all-time national tournament bid and its second in a row while the men's team earned its 11th consecutive berth and will make its 29th all-time NCAA Tourney appearance. Both teams are guided by head coach Mark Doren.
On the women's side, Ferris State is seeded third in the Midwest Region and will square off against sixth-seeded Rockhurst (Mo.) in first-round action on Friday (May 8) at 2 p.m. (ET) in Findlay, Ohio. The University of Findlay was chosen to host one of the two Midwest Region brackets with the winner of the opening round matchup squaring off against the top-seeded host Oilers or seventh-seeded Indianapolis on Saturday (May 9) at 12 p.m. (ET) for the right to move on to the D2 Sweet Sixteen set for May 19-24 in Surprise, Ariz.
Meanwhile, the FSU men's squad drew the two seed and a host spot in the Midwest Region and will face seventh-seeded Drury (Mo.) in first-round action on Monday (May 11) at 9 a.m. (ET) at Big Rapids High School. On the other side of the Midwest Region bracket, third-seeded Wayne State will face sixth-seeded Northwood at 12:30 p.m. (ET) and the winners will then meet in the bracket final Tuesday (May 12) at 10 a.m. (ET) in Big Rapids. The winner of the four-team event on the men's side will also move on to the NCAA-II round of 16 in Arizona.
Presently, the Bulldog men's team is 17-3 overall this year and captured both the GLIAC regular season and tournament championships. The women own a 13-7 mark and were the runner-up in both conference regular season and postseason play this campaign.
