Big Weekend For Bulldog Track Squads At Oakland Golden Grizzly Invite
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads took part in the Golden Grizzly Invitational hosted by Oakland University on Saturday (April 5) in Rochester, Mich.
The event included competitors from across the state and region from various levels.
Overall, the Bulldogs had six performances that ranked among the top 10 respective efforts in school history and a total of 34 top-eight meet finishes on the day.
Ferris State's Nyah Tyron was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.19) and Lizzie Haines placed fifth (1:09.81). Emily Plouff recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:37.49), clocking the third-best outdoor time in the event in FSU history.
In the 800 meters, Ferris State's Daisy Englund finished fourth (2:20.44) with Abby Griffith fifth (2:23.88), Ella Kowatch sixth (2:24.44) and Taylor Huntoon seventh (2:25.10).
FSU's Abigail Winkle came in fifth in the 200 meters (25.92) while Allie Delost placed seventh in the 100 meters (12.45). Meanwhile, Whitney Farrell took sixth place in the 1,500 meters (4:47.55) with Hanna Brock seventh (4:47.83).
In the field events, Alexis Le placed fourth in the high jump (5-1) and Angela Kotecki was fourth in the long jump (16-7.25). Maddy Biller was ninth in the hammer throw (127-2).
The Bulldogs also came in second in the 4x400-meter relay as the quartet of Darnesha Fraley, Daisy Englund, Kendra Montague and Winkle turned in a time of 4:00.37. The time was fourth on the school's all-time outdoor chart.
FSU was also fourth in the women's 4x100-meter relay with the group of Lacey Zimmerman, Ana Fortier, Fraley and Delost clocking 48.86 overall. Their time also represents the fourth-best outdoor performance in Bulldog women's history in the event.
In men's action, Devin Dennison was victorious in the hammer throw (187-0) for the Bulldogs, recording the school's fourth-best throw ever in the event.
Charlie Sutton placed fourth in the 100 meters (10.94) and sixth in the 200 meters (22.54). Luke Berney wound up sixth in the 400 meters (50.84). Jared Watchorn was seventh in the 800 meters (2:00.44) with David Harris ninth (2:00.94).
The Bulldogs' Aaron Bowerman came in third in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:59.24). Cooper Sorsen finished fourth in the 1,500 meters (3:55.35), recording the eighth-best effort in FSU history, and Nathan Alford was fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:20.21) with Josh Oom seventh (15:26.64). Blaine Rogers finished fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.48) and Zander Johnigan was seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:02.13).
Ferris State's Hayden Josef wound up third in the high jump (6-4.75) with Charlie Nickels sixth (5-10.75). Aaron Pierce was fourth in the long jump (20-10.50) and David Duvall finished fifth (20-3).
The Bulldogs also got a seventh-place finish from Brady Zarb in the shot put (44-0.75) and Royce Daugherty placed eighth (43-3). Dennison took sixth place in the discus (145-4) with the school's ninth-best showing in program history while Hunter Richardson placed seventh (138-9) overall.
Ferris State will be back in action on April 11-12 at the Davenport Invitational in Caledonia.
