Huge Weekend For Bulldog Track At Two Meets; Total of 12 All-Time Marks and 39 Top-Eight Finishes

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads had another big weekend as the Bulldogs sent student-athletes to two different collegiate meets on Friday and Saturday (April 11-12).

The Bulldogs had a contingent of competitors take part in the Davenport Invitational in Caledonia while others competed at the Central Michigan Chippewa Challenge in Mount Pleasant.

Overall, Ferris State had one of its most impressive weekends ever with a total of 12 performances ranking on the school's all-time top 10 charts. The two teams also combined for a total of 39 top-eight meet finishes with three individual champions on the weekend.

FSU's Rebecca Marvin placed sixth in the discus (120-5) and was seventh in the shot put (39-1.25) at the DU Invite while Maddy Biller was eighth (37-3) in the shot.

In men's action at DU, Devon Strobel finished second in the discus (155-11) while notching the fifth-best throw in Bulldog history and Devin Dennison was eighth (147-4). Jack Romel placed fourth in the javelin (132-3) and Noah Jones was sixth (119-4).

Meanwhile, at the Chippewa Challenge, the Bulldogs' Allie Delost came away with a fourth-place effort in the 100 meters (12.42) for the women's team, which ranked ninth in program history. Darnesha Fraley placed fourth in the 200 meters (25.70) with a time that ranks 10th on the all-time school chart.

The Bulldogs' Abby Winkle claimed runner-up honors in the 400 meters (57.72) and Kendra Montague was sixth (1:00.22). Ella Kowatch placed sixth in the 800 meters (2:20.43) with Abby Griffith seventh (2:20.77) and Taylor Huntoon eighth (2:21.62).

Ferris State's Whitney Farrell won the 3,000 meters (10:15.06) with Becci Castillo seventh (10:57.15) and Jessica Durkee eighth (11:02.18) in the same race. Nyah Tyron claimed eighth place in the 400 hurdles (1:06.30) and Emily Plouff was the runner-up in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:33.16), clocking the third-best time in program history.

Also, Angela Kotechki took fourth place in the long jump (17-1.25) and Alexis Le finished sixth in the high jump (4-9.75).

FSU's women's 4x100-meter relay team of Lacey Zimmerman, Ana Fortier, Fraley and Delost finished third overall, clocking 48.68 in the event, which also ranks fourth on the school all-time list.

In men's action at CMU, Charlie Sutton was third in the 100 meters (11.18) with Bryson Fronta fourth (11.21). Sutton also claimed runner-up honors in the 200 meters (22.02) with the ninth-best school time and Fronta was fourth (22.06).

Ferris State's Jared Watchorn placed third in the 800 meters (1:55.48) with the 10th-fastest time on FSU's all-time list while Josh Langeland was fourth (1:55.86) and Blake Ferguson came in eighth (2:02.40). Zak Kimmel was eighth in the 1,500 meters (4:01.59).

FSU's Noah Griffith wound up sixth in the 5,000 meters (15:16.05) and Blaine Rogers was the runner-up in the 110 hurdles (15.94). Aaron Bowerman recorded a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:48.79).

Ferris State had an individual champion in the high jump as Hayden Josef came in first (6-7.75) and recorded the eighth-best jump in school history. Charlie Nickels took third (6-4) with the ninth-best effort at FSU. In the long jump, Aaron Pierce was the individual winner (22-1.75) and David Duvall finished fourth (20-2.5). Pierce's jump ranks sixth on FSU's all-time chart.

The Bulldog quartet of Rogers, Ignatius Jackson, Fronta and Sutton placed second in the 4x100-meter relay (42.24) with the third-best time in school history and the group of Lucas Vandam, Langeland, Tyrese Beedle and Luke Berney was second in the 4x400-meter relay (3:25.91). The time in the 4x400-relay marked the eighth-best effort in Bulldog history.

Ferris State is next in action on April 18-19 at the annual Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.
