Bulldog Track Squads Turn In Another Record-Breaking Effort In Final Tune-Up For GLIAC Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads had another record-breaking weekend as FSU wrapped up preparations for the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships by taking part in the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend Meet on Saturday (April 26) in Allendale.
The Bulldogs set two new school records and had a total of six top 10 all-time performances in program history at the event along with several personal bests. Overall, FSU finished with 23 top-eight meet placings at the competition.
FSU's Whitney Farrell set a new school record and placed second overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:42.34 in the race.
Ferris State's Abby Winkle won the 400 meters (56.55), turning in the school's sixth-best time ever, and came in second in the 200 meters (24.88).
The Bulldogs' Kaylee Huey finished third in the 1,500 meters (5:04.45) while Lizzie Haines was third in the 100 hurdles (15.24). Nyah Tyron placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:05.50).
FSU's Allie Delost placed fifth in the 100 meters (12.27) with Lacey Zimmerman sixth in the 200 meters (25.45) and eighth in the 100 meters (12.53). Angela Kotecki was fifth in the long jump (17-9.75) and her effort was seventh-best in Bulldog history.
Frances Hoffman wound up sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.06) and Kendra Montague took seventh place in the 400 meters (1:00.50) while Haines was eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:08.17).
Hanna Brock finished ninth in the 5,000 meters (17:27.90) while recording the program's sixth-fastest time ever in the event.
Ferris State also won the women's 4x100-meter relay as the quartet of Zimmerman, Kotecki, Winkle and Delost set a new school mark, clocking 47.09 in the race.
Charlie Sutton placed fourth in the 100 meters (10.83) and was sixth in the 200 meters (21.74). Meanwhile, Bryson Fronta came in sixth in the 100 meters (10.85) and placed seventh in the 200 meters (21.80).
Hayden Josef placed fourth in the high jump (6-2.75). Nathan Alford finished seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:05.41) and Blaine Rogers was seventh in the 110 hurdles (14.99). Aaron Pierce came in eighth in the long jump (21-7.25).
Devin Dennison also placed ninth in the hammer throw (187-2) with the fourth-best all-time Bulldog performance. Jared Watchorn placed 28th in the 800 meters (1:54.76) in a highly-competitive field while recording the school's ninth-best time on the all-time chart.
Ferris State's 4x100-meter men's relay team of Rogers, Ignatius Jackson, Fronta and Sutton finished fourth (42.09) and came in with the program's third-best time ever.
The Bulldogs will return to Allendale for the GLIAC Championships on Thursday and Friday, May 1-2.
