Ferris State Track Squads Tune Up For GLIAC Meet At GVSU Extra Weekend Event
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads competed over the weekend at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet held in Allendale.
The event, which was hosted by Grand Valley State, included competitors from across the region. Ferris State had a pair of NCAA-qualifying performances in the weekend meet.
On the women's side, FSU's Ella Kowatch claimed second place in the 800 meters (2:19.83) and Whitney Farrell was the runner-up in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:47.10) with a NCAA qualifying time. Angela Kotecki came in third in the long jump (17-10.75).
The Bulldogs' Lizzie Haines was sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:05.08) and Jocelyn Shattuck took seventh in the 800 meters (2:21.93).
FSU's 4x400-meter relay team of Breanna Campbell, Claudia Johnson, Oliviah Malloy and Darnesha Fraley was second (4:03.68) while the 4x100-meter relay squad of Campbell, Kotecki, Fraley and Lacey Zimmerman placed fourth (48.10).
On the men's side, the Bulldogs' Lucas Seifferlein recorded a NCAA-qualifying time and finished as the runner-up in the 400 meters (47.31).
Josh Langland placed third in the 800 meters (1:55.60). Trevor Smith took seventh place for FSU in the 100 mters (10.53) while teammate Carson Guysi was eighth (10.54). Smith also finished seventh in the 200 meters (21.33) and Chase Segaar was eighth in the 400 meters (49.24).
Aaron Pierce recorded a seventh-place finish in the long jump (215.5). Blaine Rogers wound up eighth in the 110 hurdles (15.27) and Hunter Richardson was eighth in the shot put (46-11) along with the discus (150-4). Jack Romel came in eighth in the javelin (147-9).
The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay quartet of Segaar, Langland, Luke Berney and Seifferlein finished second (3:16.61). Meanwhile, the 4x100-meter relay group of Micahel Floriano, Guysi, Charlie Sutton and Smith came in sixth (41.39).
The Bulldogs are next in action this coming week, April 30-May 1 at the 2026 GLIAC Outdoor Championships back in Allendale.
