Men's Cross Country First, Women Second At Northwood Invitational
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Northwood Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 4) in Midland.
The Bulldog men's team earned championship honors in the four-team field with 15 points as FSU had the top five finishers overall. Senior Andrew Harper won the individual race in a time of 15:19.35 on the 5K course.
Meanwhile, the women's squad placed second overall with 41 total points. Ferris State was led by Ashley Hamilton's fourth-place effort as she clocked 18:29.84.
On the men's side, FSU's Logan Hammer earned runner-up kudos behind Harper and was followed by Lucas Copi, Spencer Gerber and Kyle Richardson in the top five overall. Trevor Holowaty came in seventh as Ferris State had six runners finish in the top seven of the men's competition.
A total of nearly 50 runners took part in the men's race. Lake Superior State finished well behind the Bulldogs in second place with 71 points with host Northwood third (74) and Saginaw Valley State fourth (79) in the field.
In the women's competition, FSU's Samantha Humphrey placed sixth and Emily Haynes was eighth as three Bulldogs finished in the top 10 overall. The Bulldogs placed six in the top 16 overall of the women's field, which featured 44 runners.
Ferris State is next in action on Oct. 25 with participants slated to race both at the Pre-Region meet in Evansville, Ind., along with the Lake Superior State Invitational in Sault Ste. Marie.
