Ferris State Softball Earns #2 Seed For GLIAC Tourney; Will Open Play Friday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The "second" season for the Ferris State University softball team begins this weekend (May 7-10) as the Bulldogs seek to claim their third Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament title in the program's history.

The Bulldogs along with five other teams are scheduled to compete in the 2026 GLIAC Softball Tournament, which will take place this year at the Crown Point Sportsplex in Crown Point, Ind.

Ferris State, which enters the tournament having placed among the top two league squads, is the number two seed and earned a day one bye at the double-elimination conference tournament. The Bulldogs will face the winner of Thursday's game between third-seeded Grand Valley State and sixth-seeded Davenport on Friday afternoon (May 8) starting at 2:30 p.m. (ET).

FSU, under fourth-year head coach Jake Schumann, wrapped up the regular-season with the program's most wins, 35, in 10 years. The Bulldogs are currently 35-18 overall and finished in second place in league regular season play with a 21-7 conference mark.

Comprising the six-team tourney field are Saginaw Valley State, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Parkside, Purdue Northwest and Davenport in seeding order. SVSU claimed the top overall seed after winning the GLIAC regular-season crown.

The 2026 GLIAC Softball Tournament Championship game is set for this Sunday (May 10) in Crown Point. A 12 p.m. (ET) starting time is scheduled for the title contest. The winner of the GLIAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament at a campus site to be announced.

Ferris State has won two conference tournaments (2000 and 2005) in the program's history to date. The Bulldogs have registered a 21-28 record in GLIAC Tournament play since 2005. This year's berth will represent FSU's fifth consecutive trip to the league tournament.

Tickets for the GLIAC Tournament can be purchased online in advance and are $15 for adults or $9 for student/children for a full single day admission.
