Bio

Sharon Schumann joined the Ferris State softball staff in January of 2023. She brings a wealth of knowledge about softball, specifically pitching, and will spend most of her time working with the Bulldog pitching staff.

Schumann has five years of college athletic coaching experience and another six years of high school coaching experience. She played at Wright State University and continued on to play professionally for the Akron Racers and Carolina Diamonds.

While on the staff at Ole Miss, Schumann helped lead the Rebels to one of their best finishes in nearly a decade, increasing their team wins by eight from the previous season. In her lone year at Florida International, the Panthers went 33-20 and 15-9 in Conference USA. FIU’s two starting pitchers posted a 2.90 ERA, and junior right-hander Shelby Graves threw her first career no-hitter en route to earning Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors.

Schumann came to FIU after spending the 2013 season on the IUPUI staff where she was the Jaguars’ pitching coach. There, she was responsible for pitchers and catchers, recruiting, and fundraising. Additionally, she spent the 2012 season at Michigan State where she served as the volunteer assistant for the Spartans. As the volunteer coach for MSU, she primarily worked with the pitchers and catchers.

Schumann was a three-year letterwinner for Wright State from 2008-10 after spending her freshman year at Bowling Green State University. After graduation, she played for the Akron Racers, and in the summer of 2012 she played for the Carolina Diamonds of the National Pro Fastpitch League.

A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Schumann graduated from Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. She then earned her master's degree in Special Education from Morningside College. Schumann currently teaches Health and Physical Education at Big Rapids High School. She is married to Jake Schumann and has two sons, Jaxon and Kai.
