Ferris State STUNT Program Earns First NCAA D2 National Ranking In Inaugural Season
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State STUNT program has achieved a historic milestone in its very first season of competition by earning its first-ever NCAA Division II National STUNT ranking — #15 in the nation. Being recognized among the nation's top teams as a first-year program is an incredible accomplishment and a true testament to the hard work, determination, and DAWG fighting spirit of Ferris State's student-athletes and coaching staff.
The Bulldog STUNT team has captured attention not only for its competitive success but also for the culture of excellence, resilience, and community engagement it has built in a short time. STUNT, one of the fastest-growing women's collegiate sports, showcases athleticism and precision through head-to-head competition in partner stunts, jumps and tumbling, pyramids and tosses, and team routines — and the Bulldogs have demonstrated their capabilities on every front.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Perrmella Harris, the STUNT program was launched as Ferris State's newest varsity sport for the 2025-26 season — the first new athletic program added by the university in 25 years. Harris brings more than three decades of coaching experience, competitive success, and leadership to the helm, having previously owned and operated the Metro Cheer Training Center and coached at multiple levels, including high school and DI collegiate program.
Supporting Coach Harris are Assistant Coach Elly Trefry and Volunteer Assistant Coach Amber West. Trefry brings championship experience as a former standout STUNT athlete and coach, with deep knowledge of the sport and a strong commitment to athlete development. Together, this coaching trio has guided the Bulldogs through rigorous training, strategic competition, and tremendous growth — both on and off the mat.
In addition to national recognition on the competition stage, the Ferris State STUNT team has also made an impact in the community. In its inaugural year, the program was named a finalist for the prestigious NCAA Award of Excellence for Community Engagement through its partnership with a local assisted living facility, where student-athletes organized "Pamper Days" and brought joy to residents.
"This ranking reflects the passion, talent, and unity of our student-athletes and coaches," said Coach Harris. "From day one, this team committed itself to excellence — in competition, in academics, and in service. Being ranked in the top 15 as a first-year program is only the beginning — the best is yet to come."
The Ferris State STUNT program will continue its season with upcoming competitions and remains focused on growth, success, and building a legacy of sustained excellence in NCAA STUNT.
The Bulldogs, who are 4-2 overall to date this year, will head to St. Louis for three matches Feb. 28-March 1.
