Ferris State Women’s STUNT Team Claims Three Wins At St. Edward’s Tournament
Austin, Texas — The Ferris State University Women's STUNT team delivered an impressive performance over the weekend at the St. Edward's University Tournament in Austin, Texas, earning three victories during a competitive four-game weekend and continuing to build momentum in the program's inaugural season.
Under the leadership of head coach Permella Harris, the Bulldogs defeated Texas A&M University Kingsville (21–13), Southern Nazarene University (23–15), and tournament host St. Edward's University (22–11). Each victory highlighted the team's growing confidence and ability to execute the technical elements required in the sport of STUNT.
Ferris State's only loss of the tournament came against No. 13 ranked Texas Woman's University in a hard-fought and closely contested matchup that ended 28–21. Despite the result, the Bulldogs showed strong competitiveness against the nationally ranked program.
With the three wins, Ferris State improves to eight total victories this season—an impressive milestone for a first-year NCAA STUNT program.
"I'm really excited for such a successful weekend," said Harris. "Our athletes competed with focus and heart. Every STUNT game gave us an opportunity to grow, and I'm proud of the way the team continues to support one another and represent Ferris State University."
Beyond the competition floor, the trip to Austin also served as an opportunity for the team to strengthen its bonds. Coach Harris organized several team-building activities during the trip, including a night of Texas-style line dancing and a visit to the Austin Zoo, allowing athletes to explore the city and connect as a team before locking in for the four-game tournament.
"These experiences help build the culture of our program," Harris added. "It's important for our athletes to connect off the mat as much as they do on it."
While waiting for their return flight home, the Ferris State University Women's Cheer & STUNT team also experienced a meaningful moment off the competition floor. The team had the honor of cheering and welcoming military veterans as they arrived back in Texas, joining others in the airport terminal to applaud and thank them for their service.
The moment served as a powerful reminder of gratitude and respect, leaving a lasting impression on the student-athletes as they concluded a successful weekend both in competition and in community connection.
The Bulldogs are led by Harris along with assistant coaches Elly Trefry and Amber West, who continue guiding the team through its historic first season.
As the season continues, Ferris State looks to build on its early success while gaining valuable experience competing against established collegiate STUNT programs across the country.
