Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad had its four-game winning streak halted on Saturday (Feb. 2) evening as the Bulldogs suffered a 73-60 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road setback to the Northwood Timberwolves in Midland.
The Bulldogs took a 14-10 lead after one period and held a three-point edge at intermission before NU trimmed the margin down to a single point heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, NU outscored FSU 25-11 en route to the win.
Ferris State turned the ball over 18 times in the outing and NU knocked down 12-of-26 (46%) three's in the game. The Timberwolves also outscored FSU 21-8 in points off turnovers.
FSU was paced by senior guard Alexis Bush with 15 points while junior center Brayenne Benner added 13 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double showing.
Meanwhile, Northwood had four players reach double-digits with Ellie Taylor scoring a game-high 24 points. Grace German added 17 points while Kenzie Seeley scored 13 points and Adrianna Stolicker chipped in 10 points.
Overall, FSU shot 46% from the floor and went four-of-seven (57%) from three-point range in addition to 18-of-21 (86%) at the line.
In addition to its strong outside shooting performance, Northwood shot 39% overall and made 17-of-25 (68%) free throws while outrebounding FSU 32-29 for the night. NU also had 13 offensive boards to four for the Bulldogs.
With the setback, Ferris State fell to 11-8 overall and 8-5 in the GLIAC. NU improved to 10-11 overall and 7-6 in conference action.
Ferris State returns home to open a four-game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 7, inside Jim Wink Arena as the Bulldogs host nationally-ranked Ashland in the D2 Showcase National Game of the Week on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. It will represent the first-ever live national TV broadcast from Wink Arena with tipoff set for 5:35 p.m. (ET). Fans are encouraged to wear white and pack Wink for the broadcast to be shown across the country.
