Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad opened its trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a 60-54 win over Northern Michigan on Friday (Dec. 9) at the Berry Events Center in Marquette.
FSU jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first period and held a six-point edge at intermission en route to the win.
The Bulldogs moved to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC with the league play while NMU fell to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Ferris State was led by sophomore Kenzie Bowers with 18 points. Senior forward Chloe Idoni added 13 points with Elle Irwin notching 11 points in the triumph.
FSU shot only 39% for the night and went seven-of-22 (31.8%) from three-point range in addition to seven-of-13 (53.8%) at the free throw stripe.
The Bulldogs had only eight turnovers in the contest and came up with eight steals and six blocks on the defensive end. NMU did own a 41-27 rebounding edge.
Northern Michigan was led by Makaylee Kuhn with 20 points. Elena Alaix added 19 points and Ana Rhude totaled 13 points.
The Bulldogs head to Houghton on Sunday (Dec. 11) to face Michigan Tech starting at 1 p.m. (ET) in GLIAC play.
