Ferris State Returns From Holiday Break With Regional Road Win At Ursuline
Big Rapids, Mich. - A big second half lifted the Ferris State University women's basketball squad to a 73-61 road win on Thursday (Dec. 29) at Ursuline (Ohio) as the Bulldogs returned from the holiday break with a victory.
Ferris State opened up a 20-12 lead after the opening period, but fell behind 30-29 at halftime as the Arrows recorded a 18-9 edge in the second frame.
However, the Bulldogs scored 24 of the 36 total points in the third quarter to take control and finished with a 20-19 margin in the fourth to seal the win.
With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 9-2 overall this year.
Senior forward Chloe Idoni and guard DeShonna Day both tallied 19 points each in leading the Bulldogs while senior guard Mallory McCartney and sophomore Kenzie Bowers totaled 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Bulldogs shot 41.4% from the floor and went eight-of-28 (28.6%) from the three-point line along with seven-of-13 (53.8%) at the free throw stripe in the regional road win.
Ferris State owned a 41-33 rebounding margin for the game and forced 17 turnovers. The Arrows converted 42.1% of their field goals and finished eight-of-21 (38.1%) from long range and five-of-eight (62.5%) at the line.
Alyssa Evans scored a game-high 20 points for Ursuline while Madison Cloonan added 13 points and Michaela Cloonan notched 12 points.
Idoni recorded a double-double for the Bulldogs for FSU with 12 boards in addition to her 19 points.
The Bulldogs return home and will host Indianapolis in regional play on Saturday (Dec. 31) starting at 3:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
