Big Rapids, Mich. - The 15th-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad started fast and never looked back in a dominating 103-50 win over Great Lakes Christian in the Bulldogs' 2024-25 home opener on Saturday (Nov. 16) night inside Jim Wink Arena.
FSU built a 30-10 lead after the first period and led by 31 points at halftime before outscoring the Crusaders 48-26 over the final 20 minutes of play.
Ferris State improved to 4-1 overall this season with the victory.
The Bulldogs shot 46.4% from the floor and went 15-of-45 (33.3%) from three-point range in earning the home triumph. FSU was also 10-of-13 (76.9%) at the free throw line.
FSU junior Emma Schierbeek led the Bulldog attack with a game-high 22 points, which included a six-of-13 effort from beyond the arc. Senior guard Kadyn Blanchard added 13 points while senior guard DeShonna Day notched 12 points.
The Bulldogs also got a double-double showing from 6-5 freshman Alyssa Wirth in her home debut as she totaled 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with five blocked shots and four assists in a solid all-around game.
All 11 Bulldog players that suited up and saw action scored in the contest and FSU dished out 32 assists in the game while also winning the rebounding battle by a decisive 60-28 margin. In addition to the 12 rebounds from Wirth, the Bulldogs also got double-digit boards from fellow freshman Grace Lyons, who notched 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass to go with seven points.
Ferris State held the Crusaders to only 32.8% shooting and Great Lakes Christian finished six-of-20 (30.0%) from long range along with six-of-10 (60%) at the free throw stripe.
The Bulldogs will play host to the Northwood Timberwolves in regional play on Wednesday (Nov. 20) evening with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
