#23 Ferris State Rolls Past Lake Superior State In GLIAC Opener

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's 23rd-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad got off to a strong start in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play as the Bulldogs rolled past visiting Lake Superior State in a 106-63 triumph on Tuesday (Dec. 3) evening inside Jim Wink Arena.

In the Bulldogs' league opener and first game back following the Thanksgiving holiday break, Ferris State surpassed the century mark and placed six individuals in double-figure scoring while moving to 6-2 overall this year.

The Bulldogs led 24-20 after the opening 10 minutes of play, but outscored LSSU 28-15 in the second quarter to grab a 17-point halftime lead. FSU then posted a 28-7 margin in third quarter scoring and totaled 26 points in the final period to come away with a 43-point victory.

The Bulldogs shot 59.4% for the evening and went 12-of-25 (48.0%) from the three-point line along with 18-of-25 (72.0%) at the free throw stripe.

Junior forward Mya Hiram paced the Bulldogs with 19 points in the win while senior guard Kadyn Blanchard tallied 17 points. FSU also got 14 points with six assists and six steals from junior Mia Riley to go with 11 poins on three-of-four shooting from the three-point arc by Emma Schierbeek. Junior Elle Irwin added 10 points and five assists with sophomore Claire Erickson also notching double-figures with 10 points.

FSU had a balanced effort overall as all 13 players in uniform played at least 10 minutes in the game and all 13 scored.

On the opposite side, the Bulldogs held Lake Superior State to 40.4% shooting overall. LSSU was nine-of-26 (34.6%) from long range and 12-of-15 (80.0%) at the free throw line.

Ferris State forced 31 turnovers in the game and outscored the Lakers 43-9 in points off turnovers. The Bulldogs also got 41 points off the bench compared to only 17 for the LSSU reserves. Additionally, FSU outscored the Lakers 34-7 on the break and 50-12 inside the paint.

LSSU, which fell to 1-6 overall this year, was led by Grace Bradford with a game-high 20 points. CeCe Hacker added 13 points and Breah Golden scored 11 points in the setback.

Ferris State will visit GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt University for the first time on Saturday (Dec. 7) with tipoff set for 2 p.m. (ET) in Chicago.
