Ferris State Finishes With Upper Peninsula Split After Saturday Setback At NMU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team finished its weekend trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a split as the Bulldogs fell to Northern Michigan by a 75-48 score on Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon inside Vandament Arena in Marquette.

The Bulldogs fell behind 23-12 at the end of the opening frame and could not recover as NMU earned a victory to move a game in front of FSU in the GLIAC standings.

Ferris State, which opened the trip with a three-point win at Michigan Tech on Thursday evening, had three players reach double-figure scoring and all three finished with 10 points each in juniors Mya Hiram, Elle Irwin and Mia Riley.

The Bulldogs were limited to 26.5% shooting for the day, including a four-of-28 (14.3%) effort from the three-point line. FSU finished 10-of-12 (83.3%) at the free throw mark.

Meanwhile, Northern Michigan shot 45.8% on its home floor and went eight-of-25 (32.0%) from the three-point arc in addition to 13-of-18 (72.2%) at the free throw line.

The Wildcats got 19 points from Alyssa Hill on the inside along with 10 apiece from Alyssa Nimz and Sydney Whitehouse. NMU also owned a 47-36 rebounding margin.

With the setback, the Bulldogs are now 17-8 overall and tied for third place with Parkside in the league race at 11-5 in conference play. NMU sits second overall as the Wildcats improved to 18-6 on the year and 12-4 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State will return home for its final two home contests of the regular season, hosting Purdue Northwest on Thursday (Feb. 20) evening along with Parkside for Senior Day on Saturday (Feb. 22). Fans are encouraged to wear red on Thursday night for the school's annual Red Out event in support of women's heart health.
