Big Rapids, Mich. - A pair of Ferris State University women's golfers earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) laurels for the 2014-15 season as the all-league selections were announced this past weekend in conjunction with the GLIAC Championships held at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club.
Juniors Elizabeth Bauernfeind (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and Libby Berens (Zeeland/Holland Christian) were both chosen to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team for their performance this past year.
The duo helped the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish at the league championships over the weekend (April 24-26) as each placed among the top 16 golfers overall. Berens paced FSU with a fifth-place finish as she shot 231 overall. After a first-round 80, she came back with a two-over 74 on Saturday and then shot 77 in Sunday's final round of action.
Meanwhile, Bauernfeind placed tied for 16th overall at 240 with a final-round total of 79 for her best figure of the tournament. She shot 81 in the first round and 80 in the second round.
This year represents the second time in her career in which Berens has claimed all-league recognition as she was previously chosen to the honorable mention team as a freshman in 2012-13. Bauernfeind received All-GLIAC laurels for the first time in her collegiate career.
All-GLIAC Golf selections are based upon a player's stroke average in their selected best rounds in league competition, including the three rounds of the GLIAC Tournament.
This season, Berens played in nine of FSU's 10 tournaments and plaecd among the top 25 golfers five times, including her final four outings. She had three top 20 finishes and two top 10 performances, which came in her last two competitions of the season to date and was highlighted by her fifth place effort at the GLIAC Championships.
Bauernfeind also competed in nine of the 10 Bulldog outings and had six top 25 showings, which included five finishes in the top 20 overall. She placed tied for seventh earlier this year at the University of Indianapolis Invitational and finished the year with 12th and 16th place performances in the last two competitions to date, respectively.
Official participants for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced via ncaa.com this week with the NCAA-II East Regional set for May 3-5 in Chicago, Ill. FSU has currently made 13-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
