Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team wrapped up action in the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Saturday (April 20) with an eighth-place team finish at the Stonehedge Golf Club near Battle Creek.
FSU carded a 334 team figure in Saturday's second round of action on the heels of a 336 day one figure Friday to finish at 670 (+94) overall for the 36 holes of action on Stonehedge's North Course.
Bulldog freshman Mackenzie Dale placed among the top 10 golfers overall as she came in ninth in leading FSU. She shot back-to-back rounds of 78 to finish at 156 overall.
FSU's Elaina Derose finished tied for 33rd in the field at 167 with a final round of 85 on Saturday after an opening-round 82 figure.
Bulldog junior Margo Brown wound up tied for 37th with a 173 score as she carded an 87 in the final round following her 86 score on Friday.
FSU's Shayna Schneider placed tied for 41st at 176 as she closed with an 86 in Saturday's round. She had opened the tournament with a 90 in round one.
Finally, Mari Suokko finished 48th overall with a 181 score after bettering her totaled by nine strokes on Saturday. She began the tournament with a 96 on Friday, but shot an 85 over the final 18 holes on Saturday.
The event was being held this year in Augusta, Mich., with action at the Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort near Battle Creek.
The 2019 GLIAC Championships featured a new format with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play with a single round per day on both Friday and Saturday. The low four of five scores counted towards the respective team score for each squad.
The top four teams after today's second round advanced to head-to-head medal play on Sunday with a bracket format similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships.
