Ferris State Women's Golf Sits In First Place Heading Into Final Round At GLIAC Championships
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team started strong and holds the day one lead following the first two rounds of play on Saturday (April 18) at the 2026 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships at Stonehedge Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.
The Bulldogs opened the 54-hole event with a +24 score of 600 over the first two rounds, shooting back-to-back 300 scores. FSU currently holds a three-stroke lead over rival Grand Valley State as the Lakers carded a 6-3 total. Saginaw Valley State is third (616) with Wayne State fourth (625) in the eight-team field.
The third and final round of stroke play will take place on Sunday (April 19) with the top two teams then advancing to the head-to-head medal match play finals to determine the league championship.
Individually, FSU's Kylie Walker and Kamryn Shannon are both currently tied for second overall with three-over par efforts in the opening 36 holes. Both shot a 147 total with Walker turning in scores of 73 and 74 in the first two rounds. Meanwhile, Shannon shot a 74 in round one and a 73 in the second round. Both trail individual leader Sonia Bayahya of Wayne State by a single stroke and are midst a three-way tie for second.
FSU's Ashley Thomasma is tied for 10th overall at 152, carding identical scores of 76 in each of the first two rounds.
Ferris State's Lizzie Anderson shot a 156 thru two rounds of play, coming in tied for 17th to date. She shot a 79 in the first round and a 77 in round two.
The Bulldogs' Isabel Kelly also is in the top 20 overall, going in tied for 19th at 158 for the event. Kelly fired a 77 in round one and an 81 in the second round of play.
The first two rounds of the event, consisting of 36 holes of stroke play, was played in chilly conditions, with temperatures in the 40s and wind gusts between 10 and 20 miles per hour.
The 2026 GLIAC individual medalist will be determined after a third round of 18-hole stroke play at Stonehedge North Golf Course on Sunday. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
The top two teams in the standings following 54 holes of stroke play will advance to the match play finals on Sunday afternoon in an 18-hole showdown for the 2026 GLIAC team title.
